  • Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold Distortion
    Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold Distortion
Hey there, treasure hunters! The Acapulco Gold is a dirt-simple distortion Device based on the power section of a cranked vintage Sunn Model T, bringing the openness, clarity, and crunch that only a dimed tube amp can provide, at a fraction of the size, and without expensive maintenance costs! Since tone is in the hands, we decided to keep the controls of the Acapulco Gold as simple as possible. The footswitch turns the pedal on and off, and the giant knob controls the output volume. That's it. The rest is at your fingertips. Want less gain? Turn down your guitar's volume knob. Need a darker rhythm tone? Roll back your guitar's tone control. Easy, right? With your guitar’s volume all the way up, the Acapulco Gold roars like a wide-open Model T on the verge of explosion. At just-barely-backed-off, the Gold becomes a raunchy overdrive. At minimum guitar volume settings, the Acapulco Gold delivers a hazy, Nashville-sounding spank to your tone. How about this? If your guitar has separate volume and tone controls for each pickup and a three-way selector switch, this little one-knob banger becomes a three-channel tone monster at the flick of your wrist! The Acapulco Gold is all-analog, true bypass, and built one-at-a-time by a wandering expedition of prospectors and speculators in dusty Akron, Ohio, USA – the hamburger capital of the world. The Acapulco Gold uses silent, relay-based soft-touch switching. Audio will not pass without power.

  • Earthquaker Erupter Perfect Fuzz
    Earthquaker Erupter Perfect Fuzz

    Ultimate Fuzz Tone

Can we ask you a serious question? When’s the last time you turned up your favorite fuzz pedal to anything but eleven? If there’s one true thing about rock n’ roll, it’s that it sounds best cranked all the way up. But where do we go from here? We go one louder. Enter the Erupter.

The Erupter is the result of over two years’ worth of tone-chasing, tweaking, and experimentation in search of the ultimate classic fuzz tone with a big low end (but not too mushy), a biting top end without being too harsh, and just enough output to politely send a tube amp over the top.

We used every trick in the book to craft a classic fuzz Device that sounds good with any pickup type, anywhere in the chain (even before a wah pedal!) without any tone-sucking impedance mismatching. We build each Erupter with a buffered input section, transformer-based pickup simulation, new production 5% ½ watt carbon composition resistors, metallized polyester film capacitors, Sprague and BC electrolytic capacitors, and low-gain, hand-matched NOS silicon transistors to deliver a well-rounded and defined fuzz tone with just enough pummeling intensity, so you can rock n’ roll all night and still get to bed at a reasonable hour.

The Erupter’s simple control set stands in stark relief of its rigorous design process, and believe us, we tried everything. Adding controls, removing controls, measuring resistors, swapping transistors, trying different capacitor values, rolling dice, throwing darts at transformer spec sheets on the wall… Heck, we would have done William Burroughs-style circuit board cut-ups if we thought it would’ve worked. If it’s good enough for the Stones, it’s gotta be good enough for us, right?

Anywho, what we finally landed on is a super-simple single knob setup that allows you to bias the Erupter’s NOS silicon transistors for the perfect sound and feel, while still being touch responsive and cleaning up nicely when you roll back the guitar’s volume and tone controls.

Low “Bias” settings yield a rude, spongy fuzz tone with plenty of sag and a blossoming attack envelope that’s gated without entering “dying battery” territory. As the “Bias” control is increased, additional harmonics stack atop the input signal, producing a stiffer, more complex fuzz tone with a tighter response, increased output, and longer sustain. We had a custom center-detent pot made to fit the required resistance for the Erupter. When the Bias control is set at noon you will feel a little click. That means the pedal is perfectly biased to give the best possible fuzz tone.

The Erupter uses a fixed master output level and gain setting for the thickest fuzz possible and to push the full frequency range of the guitar out front when you kick it on. And we do hope you’ll kick it on often.

Each and every Erupter is built by the hands of real-life dream warriors in the foothills of Mt. Akron, Ohio.

  • Earthquaker Hoof Fuzz Pedal
    Earthquaker Hoof Fuzz Pedal

    Germanium / Silicon Hybrid Fuzz

What to say about the Hoof that hasn’t already been said? Our flagship fuzz pedal can be found on thousands on pedaboards around the world and has rocked countless stages from stinky suburban basements to Madison Square Garden. Twice.

The Hoof is loosely based on the classic green Russian muff-style fuzz circuit, and features a hybrid Germanium / Silicon design, pairing maximum tone with maximum temperature stability not found in finicky and expensive vintage units. We hand-match our NOS Germanium transistors to exacting specifications for pedal-to-pedal consistency, taking the guesswork out of your fuzz purchase, and guaranteeing that your Hoof delivers the same smooth, natural, and harmonically rich sustain as all your friends’ Hoofs.  All your friends have Hoof fuzzes, right?

The Hoof has a wide gain range, providing everything from dirty and organic amp-like overdrive, to monstrous fuzz madness. This, paired with the “Shift” control allows you total tonal access, as the “Shift” knob works with the “Tone” control to alter the overall frequency response of the Hoof.

Use the “Shift” to boost the highs for a glassy, cutting top-end; use it to cut out some low-mid mud; use it to add some thick stoner rock sludge; use it on bass; use it to combat the muff-style fuzz’s notorious “mid scoop;” use it however you’d like, just use it! The Hoof’s distinctive, fuzzy character is tight and controlled without sacrificing any “guts,” so to speak, so even the gnarliest fuzz tones will sit well in the mix.

The Hoof fuzz is all-analog, true bypass, and built one-at-a-time by real life human beans with four fingers and a thumb waiting in line for the horsey rides at the rustic frontierland amusement park of Akron, Ohio, USA. (The Official Center of the Universe.)

  • Earthquaker Palisades Mega Ultimate Overdrive
    Earthquaker Palisades Mega Ultimate Overdrive

    Mega Ultimate Overdrive

The Palisades is something we said we would never do… an overdrive based on the legendary TS808! Gasp! The horror! Another tubes creamer?? In 2014?? Really?? After loads of requests we finally buckled. We ran tests with every popular clone on the market as well as several vintage originals, compared, contrasted and took loads of notes. It was exhausting but informative. In the end, we threw it all away, used our ears and came up with what we feel is the most versatile relative of the 808 available today.

With 6 different clipping voices, 5 bandwidth settings and 2 gain channels you will be hard-pressed to not find a setting that will wipe every mid-boosting overdrive off your board. The clipping voices determine how transparent and open or tight and crunchy the distortion is. They will vary drastically depending on where the gain is set, what channel is active and how much bandwidth is being used. The bandwidth sets the frequency response of the distortion and goes from thin, light and clean through fat heavy and crunchy. It may very well be the single most important control the palisades has and what really sets it apart.

Gain A is a lower gain channel with a wider range of grit that is great for strumming open chords. Gain B is a higher gain channel with a tighter range that is great for palm muting and/or shredding solos. The Palisades also has a foot switchable volume boost with adjustable level to take it over the top when you want to throw your foot up on the monitor and rip your sweet leads… or maybe just push the front end of you amp a little harder. Not enough? How about a normal/bright switch to mix and match the overall tone to different amps and guitars. Still not enough? OK then, how about a buffer on/off switch to tighten up the tone and make it sparkle when set to “ON” or warm it up and make it sag when set to “OFF”.

The Palisades is a versatile dude that will give you years of loving companionship. Each Palisades is hand made one at a time in the tiny tree house community of Akron, Ohio.

  • Earthquaker Spires Nu Fuzz
    Earthquaker Spires Nu Fuzz
The Spires was born from my need to have my big old Rosac Nu Fuzz and our now discontinued Dream Crusher on my pedalboard without taking up all the space. The green channel features a cranked fuzz inspired by the Rosac Electronic Nu-Fuzz, which, for all the unacquainted fuzz seekers, was released in 1968- decades prior to the dreaded “nü” prefix ever being uttered. The original schematic for Rosac Nu Fuzz is somewhat of a mystery so I used my original to make a “sonic copy” that is pretty much dead on. It is full-on fuzz all the time and uses crude wide range tone control to change the character from big and warm to sizzling and blown out. The original was slightly below unity at max so I gave this one plenty of output volume while retaining the original tone. The Red channel is a silicon version of the now discontinued Dream Crusher. There's no need to mourn the loss anymore. Dreams will still be crushed with walls of classic two transistor fuzz, only this time the crushing will be much more stable and less temperature sensitive. It features a very usable, dynamic Fuzz control and tons of output volume, just like the original. Each Spires is hand made one at a time by a white gloved team of professional experts in the dirty, dusty canyon of Akron, Ohio. This device is true bypass and uses relay based “soft touch” switching. Audio will not pass without power.

    Earthquaker Terminal Destructive Fuzz Device

    Destructive Fuzz Device
Congratulations on your new Terminal! Are you ready to take the stairs to the top of the tallest tower of fuzz? You are now.

The Terminal is our take on the elusive vintage JAX fuzz. These units are increasingly hard to come by, and are better known by most of us as the Shin-Ei Companion Fuzz. We love the Companion Fuzz’s unique buzzy sound, but the lack of output volume and EQ controls really got us down. So, we’ve taken the Companion Fuzz design three steps further, adding “Voice” and “Treble” controls, along with twenty stories’ worth of output volume to erect the Terminal.
